Greeting in His Name,
It was my intention to release a blog that I had already prepared but after the experience of reading the entire bible within a 72 hour period this past weekend I was really drawn to release an entirely new article. This weekend awaken an area of my life that I knew was there but hadn't been visited in a while. I remember earlier days in my walk when long times of sacrifice was a pleasure and it was in those times that I learned a lot about God. I have for the past 12 years read the bible through from cover to cover but to do it with a team of people from different denominations, backgrounds, spiritual and ministerial levels proved to be such a blessing. I felt that we were all on the same plane heading in the same direction - Revelation. We took it one day at a time. With that being said today's blog is entitled A Day In The Word. Hope you find some inspiration, conviction, and queries.
shalom and love,
heidi

God Breathe His Word (2 Timothy 3:16-17 NIV)
All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness. so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. The scripture says all, not a portion or a part but all scripture was breathe out by God. Which means that God divinely inspired it, that He inflamed it, He blew into it. God purposefully did that so that as servants of God we would have everything we needed to complete every good work. As God breathe He opens our understanding to the truth. As God breathe He rebukes what is error. As God breathe He corrects what is faulty. As God breathe He trains us how to live right. So, it is very important to test our beliefs against the Bible and if we find ourselves not doing that we could perpetuate human opinion and perspective rather than God ordained doctrine. Or worst yet superimpose cultural mores as "the do" over Biblical morality. The only way this happens is when we let cultural or religious opinion trump God's breathe Word.
God Sent His Word (Psalms 107:20 NIV)
He sent out his word and healed them; he rescued them from the grave. God not only breathe out but sent out His Word. Which means that God let loose His Word. When I think of the accomplishment we made this weekend in reading the entire Bible -OUT LOUD- I believe we let loose His Word to begin a work in the atmosphere of our neighborhoods, our country, our world, and our lives. I marvel at how God worked. My plan was that we would finish by Saturday but God let that "thang" move right on into Wednesday just hours before the presidential debate. It was awe inspiring that the book of Hebrews was our prelude which engages us to hold fast to our confession. Followed by the main attraction, Revelations, which employs us to see the new heaven and new earth - the Victory of God. The postlude, Let The Church Say Amen, sealed the deal that when the Word goes out it heals and it saves people from their sins. Sin, the only thing that leads to the grave. I fully understand when Jeremiah told the children of Israel that their sins withheld good things from them. It was their blatant refusal of correction that took them into captivity. And it is the same today. No, we may not be moved into a foreign land but its all the same when the land around you yields no blessing. It's the grave. But God sent His Word why not let it loose you today.
God Keeps His Word (Matthew 24:35 NIV)
Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away. If God breathe His Word and sent His Word won't he keep His Word? People have said that your word is your bond. Meaning you will always do what you promised to do. The word pass away has been giving the meaning to change or as one commentator says to be renovated by fire. So that New Heaven and New Earth mentioned in Revelations will come because God said it. Jesus goes on further in this chapter to explain that nobody knows when that will happen but he warns be ready. I believe he says this because He knows that God is not like us, he won't lie and He has no reason to repent. We can look back in recent times of people predictions of Christ return only to see the day come and go. God only knows when Jesus will return. So the best thing for us to do as humankind is to prepare ourselves by spending time in the BIBLE (Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth). What He promised that He will do. God keeps His Word.
Closing:
An old lady returned home from a church service to find an intruder in the process of ransacking her house. "Stop!" she yelled. "Acts 2:38!" (which says, "Repent!") The burglar stopped dead while the old lady called the police. As he handcuffed the burglar, the officer asked, "How come you just stood there? All the old lady did was quote a Bible verse." "A Bible verse?" the thief replied. "She said she had an axe and two .38s!" (hotsermons.com). For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. This funny story made me think about the above scripture. God's Word is so powerful and He watches-looks out-and for it so that He can do what He said he will do. So I encourage everyone who's reading; you may not be able to spend A DAY IN THE WORD but spend some time in it. I know your soul will thank you for it!
