Greeting in His Name,

Don't allow the enemy nor yourself to stop you from completing any and all tasks God has assigned to you. It's easy to submit to the flesh of I thought I wanted to do that and to cave under the thoughts of defeat, but I pray you press through. God has given us a world to conquer, so let's do it. Whatever your gift is let it elevate and bless the body of Christ. So with that being said, today's blog is entitled Get Rid of Your Grasshopper Mentality. Hope you find some inspiration, conviction, and queries.

shalom and love,

heidi

"The grass is green, the dew is plenteous in the morning, the covering of the blades of grass is refreshing, but… "says the grasshopper.  Mankind says, "My life is good, I have a pretty good job, my household is running in order, my needs are being supplied, my health is working, but… "  "The land flows with milk and honey, the fruit is in abundance, nevertheless - or should I say but…" the children of Israel said of the Promised Land.  It's odd that on exiting the Promised Land, the only thing they could leave at the forefront of their minds were the size and magnitude of the people of the land.  Let's fast forward for a minute to David standing against Goliath.  The people even then fainted in the sight of their enemy.  And guess what other commonality these two stories have, "40 days!"  You got it right. In both instances, there was a 40-day period of waiting and investigating.  Forty is a number of preparation, waiting, testing and punishment.  In David's case, it was an investigation into who would face this giant, Goliath. In the case of the children of Israel entering the promised land, it was an investigation into what the land looked like and the people therein.  Strangely, the thing that kept David's natives put was the same thing their ancestors were afraid of, which kept them out of the land God promised—the size of man. Let us ponder on Psalm 27:1 KJV: The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?

Grasshopper mentality is small thinking; get rid of it!  Grasshopper mentality thinks too long and allows condemning, questioning thoughts to choke the life out of what God has placed in you; get rid of it!  Grasshopper mentality can be fatal to your spiritual life if not dealt with, so get rid of it!  If you never - ever read another publication from me, please remember, "Don't limit your God."  Suppose you are hopping around, making no use of your life. In that case, I encourage you to stop a moment and open your Bible, specifically to Isaiah 40:22 KJV: It is he that sitteth upon the circle of the earth, and the inhabitants thereof are as grasshoppers; that stretcheth out the heavens as a curtain, and spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in.  Even though we are called 'grasshoppers,' God doesn't want us to 'think' like grasshoppers. Compared to the grasshopper, the only absolute truth is that we are small given God.  That smallness ensures we do not get beside ourselves and think we control anything.  God explains Himself in this passage as the creator and ruler of earth and everything therein.  And if we humble ourselves as children of the most High God, then we can expect that God will bless us in a BIG, "beyond imagination" way.

As I travel the road to old age, I am becoming more aware of God, His presence, His grace, and most of all, His mercy.  God's hope for us is to succeed and live a full life with trials intact, meaning we can't expect to not suffer sometimes. Philippians 4:10 KJV: That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death.  To have a mind to succeed in Christ, you have to stay focused on the prize and not be shaken by your surroundings.  But if you are shaken or just thrown plum nelly to the ground, look up, or better yet, look in... look into the Word, search out the Father's path laid out by His Son.  You will not go wrong.  As a matter of fact, you will succeed against every giant in your life if you look to the Master.

As you continue to travel the life road, always ask yourself some questions that will help you stay in line.  Questions like, why am I here?  Am I really in the will of God?  Am I working out His purpose for the Kingdom?  Have I shared the message of the coming Kingdom with anyone this year?  These questions will help you know where you are, where you need to be, and where you are going.  Ask yourself questions that will challenge your way of thinking and living.  Life will be easier to manage when we can get past the hard questions.  Look at the scripture again; suffering is sandwiched between life and death, "the power of his resurrection (life)," "being conformable unto his death (death)."  I bring out this point because we often allow ourselves to go to a defeated mentality; grasshopper.  Our trials usually make us think we are not going to make it, and they have also been known to bring people to a place of questioning God.  As a previous Bishop shared, "There is nothing wrong with questioning God, but there is a problem when you question His answer."  If we believe God has our best interest at heart, then when we don't get things to go exactly how we like, don't bow down to your flesh and allow your mentality to sink into despair. You are opening your mind to grasshopper thinking and a lot of unnecessary worry.  If I cast my care upon Him because He says He cares for me, why should I be concerned with how He takes care of it?  Why?  My mindset is that I don't want us to continue to hop around life with a grasshopper mentality and miss the blessedness of why God is in our life in the first place – TO BLESS US!  Deuteronomy 30:19 KJV I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live.  Choose life, choose blessing, and as He blesses you, in return, bless Him and others.

Here are some scriptures to counteract the Grasshopper Mentality:

Deuteronomy 28:13 KJV And the LORD shall make thee the head, and not the tail; and thou shalt be above only, and thou shalt not be beneath; if that thou hearken unto the commandments of the LORD thy God, which I command thee this day, to observe and to do them.

Joshua 1:8 KJV This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.

Now, after He blesses you, keep this scripture in mind:

Deuteronomy 8:17-18 MSG If you start thinking to yourselves, "I did all this. And all by myself. I'm rich. It's all mine!"—well, think again. Remember that God, your God, gave you the strength to produce all this wealth so as to confirm the covenant that he promised to your ancestors—as it is today.

Now, hop with a bigger mindset!
